MP3 players are no longer for teens and adults. Manufacturers are honing in on tweens, and here are some of the better ones to choose from.

If you have a tween, chances are, they have added an MP3 player to their Christmas list. Where do you even start to shop for one of these popular little gadgets? There are many different brands of these music players and each one will have its own unique features. They should all have enough memory space to hold enough music to satisfy your tween and they should be easy to use. Here is a look at four of the most popular MP3 players.

Apple iPod

Of course the most popular MP3 player that you can buy is the Apple iPod. These are so well known that that most kids will call any MP3 player an iPod whether it is or not. These come in popular colors (such as green, white, silver, black and red) and can have different amounts of storage space depending on the model you buy. You can expect to pay anywhere from $80 to $300 for these gadgets. The iPod Shuffle is the smallest and least expensive of this line and will hold around 240 songs. These are so small that they can easily clip onto a belt or backpack. The most expensive iPod is the Touch that has audio and video capabilities.

Microsoft Zune

If you want to buy your tween an MP3 player that has great sound and plenty of space, then this is a good option. This is not as commercial as the Apple iPod, but it generally does the same thing. These will hold more than you could ever want to put on a player—a whooping 80 gigabytes of hard drive. You can buy this version for about $200. One that has less space will cost you about $150.

Panasonic MP3 Player

Panasonic makes a whole line of very good MP3 players that are perfect alternatives to the more expensive iPod. On the lower end, you can get a very easy two-gigabyte Panasonic player for under $50. These are very small and easy to carry. The one drawback of these as opposed to the Apple iPod is that they cannot be used in speakers or receivers that are so popular today. Still, if your tween is looking for a basic, portable MP3 player, then a Panasonic is a good, economical choice.

Zen MP3 Player

This is another popular MP3 player that is less expensive than the iPod, yet still has music and video capabilities. If your tween wants to download videos, then this is a good alternative. This player holds four gigabytes and a built in voice recorder that allows your child to record his or her voice. This could be great for recording reminders about homework and other assignments. The Zen with video will cost right at $200.

These are just a few of the MP3 players available on the market. If your tween is asking for a player, then check out these models.
